Hello Everyone-
Back from vacation and I feel great, even though the time difference is still playing havoc w/ my body. I was able to keep on top of some of the things going on thanks to the folks at CompUSA. Thanks again to the great fans that give of themselves in keeping this site going. It was very much appreciated. I mentioned that I strongly advised everyone as possible to turn their computers off, leave the house and take a vacation, can be a weekend or a week as I did. It was a lot of fun and even though a mistake was made in one of the posts, which was apologized for on the site. As much as we try to be on top of things with the "news", sometimes mistakes occur. I apologize for that.
Had a great time on vacation, out on the left coast. Visited the new baseball stadium in San Fran- Pacific Bell Park is quite a site. Had a neat experience, well one I can talk about in public. The public transit system in San Francisco (The MUNI) is outstanding, one of the best in the country, and I use it to get around the city a lot. One afternoon, I boarded a train and over heard these kids talking about the "Diamond Dust", nasty chair shots, and the like. I soon learned they were talking about Masato Tanaka.
I just happened to have one of my ECW shirts on, which they then noticed and, well, marked out over. That was great. It seems as though ECW has finally made it. I got the biggest response from locals and tourists to my ECW wear (including my ecwnews.com shirt). It's amazing the inroads that ECW has taken. Lots of requests for when ECW is coming to this town, that place. Lotta interest for that West Coast run!
Now, it looks like there's more problems with TNN. Much rumour, speculation and innuendo as to what actually was going to show up on the show Friday night. Websites had "transcripts" of what Paul Heyman said during this tirade and also had the comments that were made by Joel Gertner regarding certain TNN executives smuggling livestock. When the show aired though, the footage of the comments ran, BUT there was no audio. In Paul's case, TNN ran a crawl that they bare ECW no ill will and speculated that Mr. Heyman had been thrown through too many tables. This is really an interesting situation. It's no secret that there have been problems, heat if you will, between ECW and TNN since day one and the lack of support on TNN's behalf had bordered on pathetic.
If there was such a problem with the footage though- why did it air in the first place? Goodness knows that TNN can sure find time for another commercial. I mean there's got to be more time for Louie the singing bass or another RollerJam promo. But what remains is what the next couple months in ECW are going to bring and show. This column was written on June 5, 2000. No location for the pay per view on July 16th has been announced, nor tickets gone on sale. There's also been a lack of promotion on the TV shows for the event and it's been conspicuously absent from the live event updates that are given.
Reports have had Paul giving a locker room pep talk recently telling the boys to "hang in there" and that there's brighter days ahead. Are there problems again inside ECW? If so will people "hang in there" and wait out the latest in a seemingly endless string of alleged money problems. The second half of the year 2000 will most certainly be an interesting one in the world of pro wrestling. Will ECW still be on national television? If so, where? If the WWF goes on TNN, then does ECW go to USA? If ECW goes to USA will they be demanding to get a Monday night show? If there's a Monday night ECW show, will it be live or will the hardest working men in wrestling- Ron & Charlie be further taxed? If it's live, how will that affect ECW's live event schedule? It's going to be a very interesting summer in many many regards, I guess.
