Well the groundhog saw his shadow so we went six weeks without a column. I’m sorry it’s been so long, but the past few weeks I have been concentrating on CyberSlam 2000. In case you haven’t been aware, the much- awaited announcement for the annual ECW Internet Fan Weekend has been made. Even though many of you look for it to be a February event, it seems to be that the announcement comes in Feb now.
Thanks a lot for all of the early interest. Response has been unbelievable
and signups are at a record clip. I’m pleased that there’s already several
fans returning from last year. That’s great, I’m happy you had a great
time. We’ve got a lot of great stuff planned for this time out. Been working
hard getting it together.
First is moving the
question/answer session into the Legends sports bar in
the lobby of the Holiday Inn.
This is for a couple reasons, first off we want to allow as many folks as possible to attend, it seems we keep out growing places. Legends is going to be set up to accommodate 250 people, also there will be waitress service available for drinks and “bar food”. I have gotten some emails wondering if there is an age issue due to the event being held in a bar. Answer there is NO. However, there will be alcohol available at the event and you must be over 21 to imbibe. Holiday Inn staff will be checking ID’s and being careful about things. With food and drink available right for you at a table, no need to run out and miss anything. If past sessions are any indicaton, you won’t want to miss a second of this years. Also on the agenda this year , we will be using the audio-visual capabilities of Legends SportsBar. Keep in mind that Legends offers many television sets and state of the art audio. Its hoped that we will be able to put those to use over the course of the CyberSlam 2000 question answer session. Also at the q/a session, we will be presenting the awards to the winners of the annual ECWNews.com fan balloting. Tommy Dreamer, Francine, Raven, Rob Van Dam to name a few have figured prominently in winning awards this year. Every attempt is going to be made to have the award winners present to accept the awards in person. More later on that as it becomes available.
To get the feel of what CyberSlam is all about, you do need to attend for
the entire weekend.
Friday night, ECW debuts
at the beautiful Stabler Arena
on the campus of Lehigh University. The trip up gets everyone caught up
on ECW tv as the most recent editions available of ECW on TNN as well as
ECW Hardcore TV. The way back will be “classic ECW”, more on that as we
get closer. Also a limited number of front row tickets are available, but
only as the entire weekend package. If you’d like the complete information
concerning CyberSlam 2000, please click
on this link and it will take you right there.
This column was written on 2/17/2000. Hardcore Thursday, the third biggest day in ECW’s history. I consider the first two , Barely Legal and the 2nd being the debut of ECW on TNN. Early reports are that sales of the game are brisk. I still can’t get over seeing the commercials for the game on the Simpsons. Early reaction is good, Im excited about the release of the game and as great as Hardcore Revolution is, excitement is already starting for “Anarchy Rulz” , due out this summer. To see more on Hardcore Revolution, click here.
I’m pissed at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Who dozed
off there?
No nomination for Jim Carrey
as Andy Kaufman? No nomination for Beyond the Mat? I thought wrestling
was hot now. C’mon, I mean Carrey BECAME Kaufman. Beyond the Mat
is a classic. I just wonder what retribution the Academy will get?
A visit from Tony Clifton? Who knows. Check out the Andy
Lives website.
Well, that concludes the wrestling section of this column. I will now be making a few personal comments, should you not be interested in them, now is the time to end, but I hope you read cause I have a couple cool things to say.
First off, Id like to publicly state how proud I am of my nephew, Dan Casey. He’s currently a freshman at Archbishop Ryan High School and a good little hockey player. He started the year playing JV and he’s now spending the year playing on varsity. Not too bad, another cool thing is that some of the games are on the radio and this being the 21st Century, radio is on the Internet. The games are heard on WBCB radio in Levittown, PA. There’s a website and schedule up. The site is www.wbcb1490.com. Also on WBCB is www.1wrestling.com columnist Eric G’s weekly wrestling radio show, so two great reasons to check out the station. Then from there is some polka shows. What a station!
Also, as was the point of
this column, Im very very excited about CyberSlam
2000. This is for a lot of reasons, but the main one comes based on
something I noticed in looking at old tapes and tv shows.
For those of ya out there
who haven’t seen me often, back on October 4th, 1999, I weighed 249 lbs.
As of February 17th, 2000, I was down to 210. [ That’s another reason why
I was holding off doing a column, I wanted it to be an even 40 off]
and I am hoping to be to 200lbs by the time that CyberSlam 2000 rolls around.
I’d like to publically thank ecwnews.com columnist David Pantone for his
help in getting me going. It was his friendship, advice and guidance that
got me to where I am now, turning myself around with my eating habits.
Thanks Dave. His column and email can be found at www.ecwnews.com/dp.htm
until next time-
