CyberSlam 2000 by all accounts was a success. It was a night and well, a weekend, of great change and forward movement in ECW. We’re thrilled that all of the fans that traveled in from all corners of the globe to be a part of the festivities enjoyed. Saturday night April 22nd was a night that will long stand in ECW legend. It was the night that Tommy Dreamer, albeit briefly, was the ECW World Heavyweight Champion.
Those moments, with Tommy crying, having the locker room embrace him, having Raven even embrace him should be firmly ingrained in ECW’s fans forever.

I sat front row center that night and let me tell ya, I got a little verklempt too at that sight. Seeing a man who I have the utmost respect and admiration for finally at the top of the company that he built on his back made me proud. It meant a lot more to me that this happened on a night culminating the annual CyberSlam fan weekend. I was thrilled to be there and after all was said and done for the weekend, see it as a fan. Cause at heart, that is what we all are here at ECWNews.com- Fans.

When my friend BJ Leiby started doing the ECW Newsletter, I was anxious to jump on board with him and help get the newsletter “over”. In an over used term of mine, he was doing this “for all the right reasons”, because in his heart of hearts, he is a fan of ECW. He loves the product and is sincere in his wanting the company to get better, grow, strive and survive.  That is what he’s been about and what we’ve been all about here at ecwnews.com, spreading the word, helping to fight the revolution.

When ECWNews.com hit the boards in June of 1999, we knew that we needed to expand some and then in that we picked up a few columnists along the way. In that we hoped to be able to entertain and to inform as well. Now, it’s granted that a couple of those columnists have rattled a few cages and ruffled a few feathers in the ECW hierarchy. So much so that the subject even came up at the q/a session.
Now, those columns were put up, but in no time were they being mean spirited. It’s a shame that the folks that the comments were directed at only took them at face value and didn’t look beyond into the heart and spirit of the person writing those comments or columns. No one wants ECW to fold, no one wants anyone fired, reprimanded, shot, stuffed or mounted here at ECWNews.com. We want the product to be good! We want the fact that people fly in from all over the world to have a reason to come in, to see the product that we all got to see, enjoy and love back in the early 90’s.

Granted, though this is the year 2000 and there is TNN, Acclaim Sports, PPV companies and corporate websites are a part of the equation. That if nothing else as ECW starts stepping out in a bigger spot light, that they should come under a closer scrutiny. That is what, us as fans of ECW, are attempting to do on this website and in the columns. If you can’t take the heat from your family, then how are you going to be able to stand it when it comes from higher ups? Having a corporate website is a great thing and a very important informational tool, and also as a much needed revenue source. However, there should always be a place in the entire world of pro wrestling for fan sites, if there are well done, responsible and accurate.

I am one of the first people to slap my own wrists for some of the irresponsibility that’s passed through the WS-FTP in doing this site. That’s not to say that I don’t do good work or that BJ doesn’t good work or Todd Daigler or whomever. There are a lot of fine sites that embody the spirit of what ECW”s about, the fans. One of my favorites is www.ecwthugs.com; Brian Lowery does an outstanding job for someone out in Nevada and away from the Northeast home of ECW. It goes for Luis and his www.just-ecw.com. But being in NYC gives him some of an advantage, but that doesn’t take away from the hard work he does in what we’re all about here. What can you say about a site called www.ecwfans.net. New- but going to be a good one.

We love ECW and we take time from our lives to sit down in front of a computer terminal, write a column or gather some news, or alert the fans who might not know that Nova’s latest commentary is up and that they should take a look or take a listen to Lance Storm. We put up a personal appearance or two, list of upcoming events, pay per view matches. One thing that we should have in common is that we have a very selfish goal.  We want ECW to continue on. We want that TNN show Friday nights, or Hardcore TV whenever it airs. We want that show to be a good show, because in getting better, we can perhaps go by the crap that has the nerve to tarnish its world title.

That’s only going to come when the fans continue to rattle the cages. If we at some point, ever truly offend someone, we’re sorry. Each columnist’s email is clearly noted in all of the columns and there is also a list on the staff page of this site. Those links worked the last time I checked.

ECW News.com is, has and always will be a fan site. Now, granted its looked at higher than your normal website because of yours truly’s involvements in organizing the events around the CyberSlam weekend and that one of hardest working bunch of folks help me out with that. But that is not to belittle our efforts.

As we approach our first anniversary on June 3rd and we also approach the 200k hit mark, our duty and commitment to inform and entertain is even stronger than before. We’re just gonna keep plugging away and keep doing what we’re doing, stick our heads out once a year and say “hello world”, we’re here, Welcome to CyberSlam, we hope you have a great time and that you feel as though our hard work in planning pays off.  Cause, isn’t that what its supposed to be about, what goes on inside the ring and making sure that we can keep watching them?
