Misnik's Musings  10/18/99

First off, I’d like to thank everyone for the great emails I got this past week. I wasn’t sure how running the old TV show report would go. By the response, I’ll be doing it again from time to time. Nice to see that folks out there have the same great memories I have of those days.

This time out, I’ll be covering a few items and subjects….

BEYOND THE MAT opens this Friday in Los Angeles. I have heard nothing but great things about this and I hope that I get to see it very soon. If you’re a wrestling fan in the Los Angeles area, you have to see this movie and help build up box office to show the distributors that it would be worth opening wide. If nothing else, I hope that they’re able to get a New York showing of it going by December. Why? So, that way it could be taken under Academy Award Consideration. People always joke about wrestlers winning Oscars- lets make it happen. The wrestling fan’s best friend on the Internet, Strictly ECW is running their latest campaign to get a movement to get this movie released wide- lets get behind that. Folks out in LA go to see. Lets show this movie your support.

ECW ACTION FIGURES are back out and from what I have seen set 2 is just as good, if not better than set number one. Trying to get them last time proved to be a wrestling fan’s nightmare. Don’t spend time, gas and money traveling to Toys R Us and Kay bee or whatever stores all over creation, then after that end up paying some gouger three times the retail cost on Ebay or where ever. Make a visit to www.mainevent wrestling.com, get the number and give them a call and get the entire set. They’ll be shipped quickly and cleanly and at a great price. You can get the entire set at one time. So give em a call and check it out.

ROB VAN DAM is just taking over the world outside of wrestling. This coming Saturday, the whole f’n show’s appearance on “City Guys” finally airs- thus making him Mr. FNBC. His official website, www.robvandam.com has a whole new look and is getting better and better. If you haven’t been lately check it out. If nothing else, Brian Fritz conducts a great interview with RVD, which is on the site on real audio. Rob addresses a lot of issues, including his being #2 on PWI’s list; contracts in ECW; the reporting of the injury to his wife, Sonya and more. It’s a must-listen.

PPV  ECW’s annual showcase event is soon to be upon us. The annual November to Remember will be taking place this year at the Bert Flickinger Center in Buffalo, NY. Now, I know that the BFC is a smaller building than the Odeum, but I think that the Buffalo fans are going to give the Chicago fans a run for their money in being boisterous and carrying on. The Buffalo fans have stood behind ECW through thick, thin and Empire Network schedule changes. If anyone “deserves” a PPV right now, it’s them actually. I say this not to diss Philadelphia fans or New York City fans, but for another reason. I read that the fans of Indianapolis weren’t pleased that they felt Buffalo “stole” the N2R from them. Umm, I don’t remember reading any place that the PPV was going to be in Indy. Just maybe some Internet rumours. If a show is officially announced on ECW’s site or ECW”s TV shows and THEN gets changed, then there’s room to bitch.

FANS  With ECW edging closer to the N2R- each and every show becomes more important. Two of those are coming up this week. Friday night will be a huge TNN taping at the Mid Hudson Civic Center and then Saturday night, it’s at the ECW Arena for ECW Hardcore TV. Now, both on MSG and on WGTW, the NYC and Philadelphia outlets for ECW Hardcore TV, Joey Styles filmed special clips. In these clips he talked about how important these shows were going to be – as he told fans to fly to Poughkeepsie for the TNN taping and that the ECW Arena show was going to go back to the days of the shows in 94 and 95. He said it was going to be an old school hardcore show for the fans that have been with ECW since day one. Well, those of you that will be there, lets do just that- give them an old school hardcore crowd. Show some of the excitement and energy that the crowds had back then. Be respectful and have a good time. I mean don’t some of you feel that the “You F*cked  Up”, “Show your T*ts” and such are old hat. These people bust their asses out there and whether Sabu slips on a slippery turnbuckle or Bob Artese makes a mistake or even Randy puts up a wrong song cue. Give them a break. Also this is going to be a chance for ECW Arena fans to get their hands on some of those great new shirts and tapes, pick some of them up. Some folks are a bit miffed that the Arena’s TNN taping was done “ after the fact” and the fans are being ripped off with Poughkeepsie getting TNN taping the night before. Well, I’d think that TNN people will be around and checking things out- lets show them that the Arena fans are the best in the wrestling business, have fun and be respectful. Perhaps part of the reason why the Arena hasn’t had an “announced” TNN taping is because Paul, Charlie and Ron re-dubbing the background crowd noise to cut out the expletives spend too much time. This Saturday night is the last Arena show before the biggest PPV in the history of the company. Let’s send off shuffling off to Buffalo with our hands clapping, cheering and have a great old time. Just like the old days.
